Friday - down to Toronto, uneventful
Sat. morning, on to Guelph. Got to the site early, so toodled around downtown Guelph (such as it is) for a bit. The event itself was decent. They only had 2 rooms of classes going, so the variety was not great, but at least everyone there was interested in dance happening...though not all of them were picky on whether the dances were remotely period or not. I went through stages of extreme tiredness, to relatively decent energy, and back again, depending on how recently I had eaten and how busy I had been. By and large I lasted fairly well though. The pillows on the bed the night before were these enormous fluffy monsters that I just couldn't sleep on, as they raised my head several inches higher than I can deal with, so I slept with no pillow, then got up at 7:00. I didn't sleep well Friday night.

Dinner was potluck, and fairly small (fewer than 30 people), but was perfectly passable. We were entertained by a neighbourhood bat that flew in threw an open window somewhere and swooped around and around the main hall. Sometimes near the ceiling, sometimes buzzing the floor, sometimes buzzing people's heads, sometimes hanging resting in a corner. Not until after dinner did he settle on the stage where someone put a box over him, and they managed him outside.

The evening saw continuous dancing and music until the wee hours (well....11:30 or so anyways when the site had to close). I sat out many of them, partly because some were boring, partly because some were awfully out of period. I played recorder for those dances I knew, and danced several as well. I am pleased I went, even if it was not the best sca event I have ever been to.

Saturday night was crashing at the sister-in-laws house, playing with their husky, sleeping on a very firm bed, then toddling off in the morning again to drive back home. Did you know it actually only takes about 5 hours from Guelph to Ottawa, staying at about 130 kph or less (except for passing occasionally) the whole time. I have these notions that Toronto is 5 hours, and Guelph is like 7 or something.

Back home in a freezing house (shut off heat while we were gone), typing with somewhat numb fingers. I'm happy I did the trip, even if I didn't get any decent sleep.
