not as sore as I thought
Feb. 13th, 2003 10:55 amLast night I did my first full gym session. No orientation, just doing all my routines, in 3 sets of 12 reps, plus my cardio, plus my stretches (sort of), the whole shebang. I can feel it, but you know, I ain't broken. I wasn't sure how long I should wait in between my 3 sets of 12 (how much rest), so I just paused, stretched, and when I felt I could start again, I did. Most of the machines I reached the end of my sets with little difficulty, some I reached, but it was a strain, and 2 machines I could not finish my 3 sets (1 of them I could not finish 2 sets, need to lower the weight on that one maybe). The cardio was annoying, because I can't get my damn feet in the brace straps over the bike pedals. I ended up popping off one strap, and just stepping on top of the other one. Biking for 30 minutes when only your toes are on the pedals is murder on the feet. I am going to figure out how to unlatch those straps next time. I still forgot to bring my discman and a book, so I watched subtitled news in silence for the half hour *shrug*. Felt a little rubbery as I went back to the change room, but I'm more or less ok now.
Things to work on:
-My side sit-ups meant to target the obliques, .... aren't. I find my stomach is still doing more work than it should there, but I think it has to do with posture, I need to be more properly perpendicular to the floor.
-I can't......CAN'T arch my back to finish a hard push as the strain increases. Better to just stop my reps, rather than lifting the weight by contorting my back, it didn't feel good.
-I may need better shoes. One of the hamstring exercises and the biking was causing my soles to hurt quite a bit, which is not the idea. It may be my rather ancient and venerable running shoes.
