May. 20th, 2003 11:19 amUm, where to start. I won't fuss with all the details of an eventful 3 day weekend. We could be here for a bit.Friday we ran the entire play (and on Sunday, and on Monday), it's starting to look pretty tight. They re-blocked my scene on the premise it needed to have more movement. By and large, I like the extra stuff, though they now have decided that we doing a do-si-do part way through, for no apparent reason than to just inject extra movement and a dance touch. It totally does not work, it's stupid, but the rest of the changes are good one.
Helen and I walked this weekend. On Saturday, we walked from Dow's Lake right to the Ottawa river, that's a long walk. We saw tulips, people, lots of dogs, sunshine, it was wonderful. When we got to the locks down at the very end, we decide to stop to eat a bit. I ask a lady on a bench if we can share the bench, she misunderstands, and in a noticeable dutch accent say, "No I don't speak French". I clarify, and comment that she probably speaks dutch however. My parents were dutch and I recognize the access says I.

Turns out she is an old old friend of the family. She knew my mom before I was born, and was friends with her until she died. I have stayed at this woman's house, she has taken care of me when I traveled to southern Ontario as a kid for one reason of another. We spent the next almost 2 hours talking talking talking. About me, about her, about her children, her life, my mom, my mom's life in Nova Scotia before she died, my siblings, everything. She met Helen of course, which was nice because this woman shares strong similarities to my mother, and Helen only met my mother once for breakfast, and never quite got to know her. This woman on Saturday has definite differences, but very strong similarities as well. I can tell why she got on with my mom. It was....surreal.
On Monday, we took a bus downtown and reversed the walk, walking along the canal to Dow's Lake, and in fact, we walked all the way home (no dogs this time....none *pout*)
I also had some emotional outpouring with both Helen and Nesia regarding availability, quality time, and scheduling challenges from having Pedro living with us and being in the play. After tonight in whcih I am not rehearsing, I am doing nothing but the play for a touch under 3 weeks until the run is done (we open in a week and a half!). It will be busy. I already promised Nesia when it's done that we are taking an whole weekend and travelling to Montreal, just the 2 of us. I will have free time again, and I intend to use it well. The discussions of the weekend have also let to some insightful soul searching in myself, and some resolutions. ( Details )
Anyways, it was a good weekend all things considered. LOTS of walking, we had Nesia over Sunday evening for some talking between the 2 of us (including a promise not to run off and do another play), and a movie with all 4 of us (the japanese film Shall we Dance). I am pleased with the quality of my weekend.
