Sep. 17th, 2003 10:59 amSo yesterday Helen and I looked at houses. There is a Claridge homes development going up on Walkley just east of Bank st., so we checked it out. It has some selling points, many of the lots available back onto some minimal park land, and you can pick any unit you want to go on the lot you buy (as opposed to each unit having been pre-planend). We looked at floorplans, but they had no model homes. However the claridge homes block in Kanata did, so we piled in the car and took off for Kanata. We found and walked through the largest version of townhome they had, which on paper looked quite admirable, but in practice was really rather blah. The kitchen was awful, and the rest was......functional, but uninspiring. We also looked at one model of fully detached home, which was much more pleasant, but obviously more expensive.
At home, Helen poured through each and every blueprint that Claridge had to offer, and we found 2 other townhome models that we wished we made a point of checking out in person. After learning the lesson of seeing the home we did see, we starting getting ideas of what parts worked, and which ones didn't. Helen is also fired up on seeing more homes, so we are going to start doing some rounds of other development complexes as well as trying to see those 2 townhomes we didn't see before.
If anyone wants to point out a housnig complex going up that they know of, feel free to let us know. We may know about it already, or it may just be to expensive (west village in Westboro for example), but it's good to have options. For reference, yes we both favour brand new homes built to our preferences, although we dismiss nothing.
