So tonight was an exercise in both frustration, and very real and satisfied pleasure. We started by going to the housing office to finalize our last changes aside from the kitchen plan which will still be forthcoming from Canac. We are adding ceramic to the kitchen, and a small number of other things. We found out tonight, that all changes after the offer is in must be paid with 40% downpayment ahead of time. Excuse me!? They said nothing about that when we were preparing the offer. We even talked about future changes and were assured we can easily make certain changes early, and other changes later in the game (earlier being ones that afffect blue prints really). Well sure we can, if we pony up 40% of the change. I understand the reason for this, I really do. If we back out, they have to sell a weird custom house on the open market. I don't mind the reasoning for wanting 40%, I mind very much we were never told about it ahead of time when we discussed future changes. We also found out this applies to the kitchen modification. 40% is a lot of money. We don't know how much the kitchen is going to run us, but we still have to make sure we find probably 2 thousand or so dollars...maybe even more. Now that's small fry to the overall house price, But the overall price is being payed by mortgage and gift money from Helen's parents. We don't have that cash now.

My bad mood however was calmed when we left and went to look at dining room tables. We went to Valley squire furniture south on Bank past Leitrim road. What a pleasure to walk in that store. First of all, it's fun to just walk through, lots of rooms, lots of stuff, nice stuff, not too pricey. The sale staff was informative and knowledgeable and not pushy, a BIG plus in my books. They talked to us a bit, and also just left us to look around when we expressed a desire to do just that. The store was empty, they could have hovered over us all night, but they didn't. They answered every question with precision and assurance, and let us get back to our deliberations. The tables and chairs are all custom made. We can pick from 6 types of table legs or center stand, 4 types of rim, from up to 2 dozen or so stains, and we can have up to 2 colours (table top vs. legs for example in different colours), and the chairs can also have custom legs, and up to 2 stain colours. It's a mix and match dream. Plus they are having a fall sale, PLUS they are having a bonus 10% off sale until the end of the month. We are so psyched about the table we sat at most of the evening. Musing colour choices, light vs dark, or both (dark top, light legs for example), which chairs, etc... If anyone is looking for furniture, give them a nod, take a look. Some nice stuff, mostly all on sale right now, and nice helpful but non-pressure staff. We have pretty much decided we are getting our table there, we just need to settle on colours. I took some pictures, I will try and get them up tomorrow.

A now a quick question. Anyone got a decent colour printer (ours is so so) and has Word (I don't at home), that can print off a colour Word document for me?
