What is the deal with St. Patrick's day? I have never felt anything for this day. If you ask me, I will say it's Wednesday. If someone says that it's also St. PAtrick's day, I will probably say something like "is it.....oh, ok *shrug*". I may or may not remember a few hours later.

Don't get me wrong. I like pubs, I like a pint of guiness, I like some nice irish fiddle music, I like that atmosphere. Honestly though, I like it on every day except this day when the pub will would probably be overrun by hooting people quaffing green beer (and some of you know the definition of quaffing as I consider it). Beer is not green. It's a nice golden ranging down a dark nutty brown, usually with a bit of white foam. Something to relax and enjoy while listening to music or talking with friends. The irish invented many fine beers. Guess what....NONE of them are green. I can understant the irish getting excited. It's their day, ok sure. In some ways, it's the same reason I get excited on December 5th since I am dutch. But the whole world seems to go nuts this day. What's the appeal. What's so special about warping the colour of your beer, and going to a pub or bar that's 3 times as crowded as normal?

I don't get it. Today is Wednesday. That's all it is....to me anyways. I don't even notice it's arrival until someone perky offers me a carboard cutout of a 4 leaf clover and I look at it in confusion before it dawns on me. I don't think I am being curmudgeonly, I am just confused over why it's so special for so many people.

Does anyone have a link to any medical studies of visco elastic foam beds? I know I can find about a million testimonials from people saying they are more comfortable, but are they medically sound? I can also find people that say sleeping on a wooded board is best for you. So what is the truth? The bed we looked at it is very cool, and VERY comfortable, but before spending that kind of cash, we need to make sure it really is "all that". Comfort is not the last word in bed quality after all (though it is a big word). Surely, there must have been studies in sleep patterns, spinal stress, etc... impartial studies prefereably that can really give me the skinny from a medical and chirpractic viewpoint.

Helen is going to be checking into Consumer's reports and see what there is from that side of the story. Shelling out the bread for thsi bed would end up being a much larger slice of our disposable cash for the new house than we originally expected, so we need to make sure the expense is worth it. We are planning to go back to teh store with a book, and lie on the showroom bed for a half hour or to get an extended idea of what it feels like. I am hopng they will tolerate that if it could mean a sale.
