Gave blood this evening (yes
carlin, I made a special point of mentioning the innapropriateness of some of the questions). Helen beat me soundly. She was a good 45 seconds faster than I was. I was bleeding the right arm this time, I usually do the left. Not sure if my right is innately slower or not. And then on top of that, she ate most of the last strawberry jelly donut before I discovered I was left with a blueberry. I foisted the blueberry on her, and claimed the last few bites of her strawberry.
I found out that the questions they ask to quiz you for suitability do actually change. They actually dropped one off the list in the last few months. That means that progress may be made yet to some of the other objectionable questions, especially the ones invalidating gay men, simply for sleeping with a man even once, never mind precautions and safe sex measures used. I am pretty sure one of the male nurses is gay, so maybe he'll help push the standards in his own way. I expressed my dissaproval once again as I usually do, but they also said that newborn donor blood is especially needed right now, stores are apparently quite low, so it may me feel extra privileged at qualifying to donate to newborns.
The new center is tres swish. They have moved offices to down in the Carling and Churchhill area. It's a bit further for us, but not so bad.
