Addendum to my last post
Apr. 7th, 2003 12:06 pmHas anyone ever had mutton? There is much more beef on the general market than veal, yet mutton is virtually unknown (vs. lamb). In fact, it's likely that any given supermarket won't even have any in stock, and probably never carry it. I've heard you can get it at some middle east supermarkets, but not even all of those. Why? I know some of the theoretical reasons, but I am curious to hear form someone who has actually consumed mutton, and what their thoughts on it are.
Quick recount of my weekend free of moral rants/discssions.
Friday night: We carried on with our blocking of the play. We are now up to about page 15 or so, go us! The start is the most complicated part since it involves the entire cast, and actually does go on a while. It gets simpler when things break apart and you have smaller units of people. I get a fun bit where I get to tell off a crowd of 6 or so misbehaving children, and admonish them to do what they are suppsed to be doing. It's fun to let a little anger out occasionally. We have one week now to get ready for our read through. That's when we read and sing the entire play in straight sequence (without blocking) for the benefit of the family and friends of the cast. It's an attempt to tell them "Here's what your loved ones have been doing and why you haven't seen them in weeks" I hope we use this week well, I know 2 or 3 numbers that still need some work. I really have to set to getting my lines memorized as well. I want them cold before we start blocking my scene.
Saturday: Finally got back to the gym. I have decided to start focusing harder on the areas I actually want to work on, and worry less about the overall body thing. I am going to leave my legs alone, they don't really need that much help (won't ignore them, but I am not trying to develop them). I am focusing more on fat burning for my tum and pecs, and strengthening my back and arms. That's why I got into the gym in the first place, that's what I will focus on. I then came back home, rehearsed my performance dance with Helen, had some lunch, got dressed in my spiffy german renaissance outfit that I couldn't fit into for the last few years, and went to the event. The event itself was quite lovely, food food food food, and most of it quite good. The beef medallions and the peascods in particular were just incredible. The dancing was...remarkable. The dance floor was packed, just packed! It's been a while since I have seen such enthusiasm. It may have had to do with the fact that there were at least 10 new people I had never met before, and 2 or 3 new people that I had met, but it made for a lot of newbie enthusiasm. Nice to see.
Sunday: Woke up at about 9:15, switched the clock ahead to 10:15, lay blinking in bed for 15 minutes. Decided I would rather ravish Helen then rush out the door to meet people for noodles by 11:00. Some time later, after it was well and truely too late to bother with noodles, I went and had some breakfast, gathered my fencing stuff, and proceeded to fencing. Fencing, was poorly attended to begin with, and well attended by the end. People kept dribbling in as the afternoon wore on. Bleary eyes, weary slumped shoulders. But by the end of it, we had a decent crowd, and I got some decent fencing in (mostly during the last hour). Pedro and I did some sidesword, and got likened to something apelike in our style, lots of flailing arms, but we were having fun, so all I can say is ..."Ook" Afterwards Elgin St. Diner was PACKED, so we went to Woody's instead. I have decided that I like Woody's breakfast menu better than their lunch/dinner menu. All I wanted was a snack, but all they had for that was soup, everything else was basically full meal size. Ah well, I had a half pint of Murphy's stout instead. The reason I wanted said snack was that Helen was busy preparing dinner for Pedro and I. Roast beef, garlic roasted potatoes, yorkshire pudding, thick gravy, brocolli, Lindeman's Shiraz. Then after dinner, another bottle of generic red (but 4 years old as it turns out), leftover christmas pudding (yes from Christmas, that stuff will survive forever), and port. After Pedro had left, we touched it up with mint/chocolate ice cream. My god what a weekend of meals!!
I also finished the claiming sleeping beauty series of books. Quick review: Book 2 is best, first half of book 3 is nice, the rest is.....so-so. Still I am glad to have read them and be able to say that much. I have already said to much however, I won't fuss with a mroe detailed review.
