Sep. 21st, 2008 09:46 amHell yeah.
That wasn't bad at all actually. I almost missed it mind you. I thought registration was at 8:00. I was wrong, people were starting to enter the pool at 8:00. I raced through the registration process at lightning speed, scrawled number on my skin in markers, pinned a number to my shirt, and raced into the pool area. The Sportsplex pool is much more sensibly chlorinated, and it was actually a perfectly pleasant swim. No problem there. I had to pause to wait for the person ahead of me to get out, so I clearly caught up to them. The bike ride was good. It would have been nice if they made it clear how many laps I needed to do (turns out only 2), I had to ask one of the crowd control people along the route. Only annoying part is a stretch along Merivale where the asphalt was undergoing work, so we had to bike along that rumply surface that is under the smooth asphalt. Not pleasant, and I feared another flat. I got through it though. For biking, I was passing everyone except 1 person who passed me. I didn't even keep pace, I passed everyone I met. Then the run. I was middle of the pack for the run, passing some, getting passed by others, but I keep running the whole way, gulped a bit of gatorade between that deep jogging pant/breath, and found a bit of sprint in me for the end where they had pumpernickel bagels and bananas available. I dove on them.
Including waiting in line in the pool which was not counting against my time, I was about an hour in when I finished it. I am not sure the exact time I dove into the pool, but I crossed the finish just a minute or two after 9:00.
Time to relax a bit before I pile off to rehearsal.
