Newsweek is in trouble. A republican media team is up in arms that Newsweek featured a photo of Sarah Palin on the cover that was, wait for it, NOT photoshopped. How dare they, how dare they publish a picture without editing the photo to disguise blemishes and wrinkles.

Personally, I think it's not a bad picture. She looks like a real person at least.

No one looks good in super close up. But I don't think she looks any worse than anyone else would.

ahahahaah! I find it hilarious that Newsweek is in trouble, and that no one's been able to grab this and spin it. Its so simple, for the magazine and for her, really- this just shows how authentically 'amazing' she is- really- she didn't even NEED any photoshopping?! I'm also confused as to all the fuss over such trivial matters as this. Really, USA? Your media and values come down to how close your potential leader can resemble a white barely- twenty-something beauty queen?

Gods help us. I hope those in the US who don't ascribe to this kind of ideology still have a chance to get out.

*end of snark*

Forgot one thing... I know the whole lack of photoshopping isn't *really* the issue, it's more that the article and the picture create being in touch with the public into a negativism. Because, heavens forfend the leader and caretaker of a nation should you know, have an idea of what its like to live within that nation....That might get in the way of doing the job :P

Problem is, she *doesn't* have any idea, And she doesn't even qualify as a "trophy" running mate.

I totally agree. I think she's the closest the Republicans can fathom of being in touch with the public... like she's some sort of idea of an idea of something they know very little about... its still all very scary!

I think this sets out their problem much more accurately.

Dunno, I get the feeling from the photo she is really "trying to smile," because the lips aren't really in a straight line...but not quite a sneer.

Particularly from the US news media I read, the campaign has been trying to bash Obama for his shady past, this photo immediately strikes me as not genuine, almost like putting on a front.

I sorta get the negativism thing. I don't want our 'leaders' to be just plain folk. Really; shouldn't the person in charge be smarter than average? (not to mention more charismatic and more organized)

Isn't most media a little elitist, and a little liberal? Don't most daily papers edit for an eighth grade education? What's the big deal with this one?

I don't want our leaders to be plain folk either....but they are certainly allowed to look like them.
