I got some new ideas for a possible tattoo...ideas that are making me consider it seriously for the first time. Call it a theme...I don't know what image inside this theme is the one I want...but it will be something in this theme (well...possibly)


Ignore the top and bottom bit...I was thinking of an interlocking band around the arm so that it joins in on the other side.


This general concept can be applied to an endless number of Escher's patterns, this is just two of the more iconic ones. The advantage to the second one is it can be done with just 2 shades, so black and white is a more viable option.

Another idea is this set of 4 (ignore all the writing)

Last is to take one of his fixed pictures (in other words, not an infinite pattern like the following (probably minus some of the extra objects around the edge like the plant, bottle, or book)

Have you picked an artist yet? Make sure when you pick your artist you find somebody who specializes in custom art. An artist with a lot of "flash" on his walls probably isn't used to designing pieces and won't be able to turn your idea into a good piece of art that will work. When you have a good artist, they know how to make a good tattoo. When you have a bad one, they just copy whatever you want without regard to whether or not it will look good in the medium.

I'm some way from actually going ahead with it...I'll sit on it for a while yet with a picture on my fridge or some such.

Fortunately, I know a lot of local people with tattoos including some nice custom stuff, so I think I'll be able to get a lot of input into artists.
